You have to really listen closely, though, because otherwise, you might not notice. Charles says to Albert that the people at the Sleepy Eye orphanage seem nice. But in Season 7’s “Silent Cry,” there is a much different opinion about how the head of the orphanage doesn’t care about splitting up two brothers. Actress Barbara Collentine, who plays Edna Mills in this episode, is the wife of Richard Bull (Nels Oleson).

It’s possible that Jonathan has left Sleepy Eye between his last appearance and this episode, but nothing about it is ever mentioned. It is very unlikely that Hester Sue, a black female, could have purchased land and concluded the transaction so quickly. Following the Civil War, 19 of 24 northern states still did not allow black people to vote, and women were generally considered the property of their husbands. In this episode, Cassandra (Melissa Francis) becomes the only Ingalls child (other than Mary) to win a prestigious award at school in Walnut Grove. Why would Caroline need to hire a farmhand while Charles is away when her son Albert is nearing young adulthood and pre-teen James is living at home?

This is absolutely the first and only episode where we hear anybody refer to Nancy as “darling” (except her parents, of course, mostly her mother). Charles calls her “darling” when she is fearful about her parents’ lives. You will notice that Nancy is arguably more scared and empathetic than she’s ever been in the series. Season 6, Episode 6 – Preacher Takes a Wife

In the Hero Township horse race, Laura and her horse Bunny go head-to-head with Nellie and her new Thoroughbred, which Mrs. Oleson has bought for her, against the wishes of Nels. Laura has to battle all kinds of adversity and needs a pep-talk from her Pa when she begins to feel sorry for herself. However, Nellie does not properly prepare for the race, so the stage is set for a close finish. Nellie has been mistreating Bunny, who was Laura's horse until she sold it to Mr. Oleson (in "Christmas at Plum Creek"). When Nellie falls off the horse and appears to be seriously injured, Mrs. Oleson blames Laura and wants Bunny to be killed, so Laura takes Bunny and hides her. Nellie exploits Laura's guilty feelings, but then Laura makes a discovery which leads to a comeuppance for Nellie, and Bunny becomes Laura's horse again.

As they all sing a hymn, Miss Peel accepts the hand of friendship that Mary offers to her. After Caroline complains about the small size of her kitchen, Charles decides to build an addition onto the house, but after starting the work he has to leave to take a rush delivery to Mankato. Caroline hires a handsome young handyman named Chris Nelson (Gil Gerard) to complete the job.

She reluctantly agrees to changes which the publishers want to make, but Jenny convinces Laura that the new version is not as good as her original and should not be published. Caroline responds to a plea for help from a childhood friend, Louisa Beckwith, by travelling with Doc Baker to a mining camp where there is an outbreak of influenza. When heavy rains make it impossible to plant their crops, the Ingalls and Edwards families head west to pan for gold. The promise of becoming rich is realized by only a lucky few, which leads to ill-feeling, lawlessness and even deaths. Laura and Carl come across an ex-miner who has seen the ill-effects of the search for gold and lives like a hermit.

Season 9, Episode 12 – Marvin’s Gardens

The citizens chose to burn down the town instead of giving the land grabber the place in one piece. In the episode “The last farewell,” the citizens of Walnut Grove discovered that a developer had bought the land. The land grabber threatened to evict anybody who doesn’t work for him, and he had the backing of the US army. The show ended with the occupants of Walnut Grove blowing up the town one building at a time.

A season and a half later, in Season 9’s “Times Are Changing,” Royal comes to Walnut Grove with one daughter and no sons. Almanzo says it’s been ten years since he last saw Royal, and Laura implies that she’s never met Royal before. In the scene right after Harriet faints in Church, we see the congregation leaving. Eliza Jane is walking arm-in-arm with Harv. Given the way the small town of Walnut Grove typically is, it’s strange that nobody noticed this and thought it was odd that Eliza Jane suddenly had a beau. At the very least, you’d think that gossipmonger Harriet Oleson would have spread that information around as quickly as possible.

One viewer really hated Nellie.

Even Mary knew how to plow a field at age 14, as she demonstrates in Season 4’s “To Run and Hide”. Claude Earl Jones, who plays Jack Prescott in this episode, appears again in Season 9’s “Home Again, Part One” as a compassionate store owner who drops shoplifting charges against Albert in Burr Oak, Iowa. When Willie approaches Laura’s desk to speak with her about history (after the other children have left the classroom), he appears to be dripping with sweat. The camera cuts to Laura for a moment, then switches back to Willie, whose skin is suddenly completely dry.

He invites Mary to come with him and teach there as well. She returns to Walnut Grove temporarily in order to say goodbye. Charles and Caroline decide to also move to Winoka in order to be near Mary. They vacate their home and farm without even putting it up for sale, since no one would buy it anyway considering the shape Walnut Grove is in.

“Little Nellie was hilarious with that hair and those petticoats, kind of like a drag queen in training,” Lady Bunny, a DJ, told The New York Times. Most recently, Arngrim was a part of Los Angeles DragCon. Identical twins Rachel and Sidney Greenbush played Carrie Ingalls, and Turnbaugh also had a real-life twin (named Brenda). Any dinner scene that showed some sort of generic meat and gravy on the family’s plates—regardless of whether Ma announced that it was rabbit, chicken, or squirrel—actually consisted of canned Dinty Moore brand beef stew. Those instances when Laura was seen pulling a drumstick out of her tin lunch pail at school?

So Caroline moves out of the house and organizes other wives in a mass 'walk out' from their matrimonial duties. Eventually, the husbands, led by Charles, decide that they can support the petition, and marital peace and harmony is restored. Trying to start a new life after Alice's death, Jonathan moves to Sleepy Eye and buys a freight business. Jonathan helps Andy resolve his feeling that Mary and Adam are to blame for his mother's death.

If you look closely, you can see two sets of reins when Albert is driving the wagon. A short while into the episode, it turns to orange. Towards the end of the episode, it turns back to yellow. When Charles puts a lock on the door, Caroline says they never had to do that before. In Season 1’s “Harvest of Friends”, however, Charles gives Caroline a key to their front door, and she specifically mentions the feeling of security that it gives her. Harriet has a record of four fainting spells in this episode, and Nancy has one, her first and only one, in the whole series.
