The Google Home Hub has a Hidden Screen Settings Menu

Check g.co/nest/matternow for more information on Matter-enabled devices and functionality. On your display, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Swipe up, then tap VolumeExpandadjust the volume of your alarm. To enable or disable a news feed, you can tap the selection icon. If there is a check mark, it means it is enabled. If it is an empty square, it means it is disabled.

You only need to customize some common settings once and therefore, it is not necessary to repeat the process for all new Google Home devices. At the same time, privacy settings can be turned on/off in individual Google Home device. These two options to customize Google Home settings work to compliment each other, both from Google Home app. To add something to your Watchlist from the Google TV device itself, first, highlight a movie or TV show and hold down the “Select” or “Enter” button on your remote. When the app shortcut is in the spot you want, click the “Select” or “Enter” button on your remote to confirm. Select another app to move it, or tap the “Back” button on your remote to finish.

Google Home Hub features you should be using

Google's Nest Hub smart displays use voice commands for most functions, which means they are usually easier to use than smartphones or PCs. However, the lack of a graphical user interface means discovering features can be difficult. Google does show tips and tricks on the Hub's home screen, but they don't cover every possible option and feature. From the top of the screen, swipe down to open the Quick settings menu, then tap AlarmsSet an Alarmselect the time tap Set. You can customize your alarm to make the alarm repeat, change the alarm tone, include a sunrise alarm, or play your morning routine. However, sometimes those displays can be a little too bright, especially if you are trying to enjoy a quiet evening or sleeping in the same room.

At the top-right of the Home screen, tap Devices. Tap the device that you want to link to your voice. This is a pretty neat option if, for instance, you don’t want people to be able to control specific speakers in your home i.e. an Office or maybe in the Kitchen for instance. When you do that, only your voice will prompt the Assistant to respond. Many Google devices will be automatically updated to support Matter.

Turn off the screen at night

If you dismiss cards for remote playback sessions on other speakers or smart displays, you don't end the playback session. When you’re ready, you can end the playback session on the remote device, or you can retrieve the media controls through the Media page. Or, on the Home control page, tap the “Speakers and TVs” card to control media that plays on any device in your home.

Locate Netflix and tap the Link icon to link your Google account to your Netflix app. Open any Chromecast-enabled app and tap theCast button. Dim lights, see your camera or doorbell feed, turn up the heat, and do more with your smart home. Catch up on your shows, listen to music, and view your favorite photos. From the bottom of your Nest Hub display, swipe up.

Screensaver options

If you don’t have handy access to your Google Home app under the right account, you can choose to change the settings on the smart display itself. Routines are actually one of the most powerful features you can use on the Google Home platform, so they're really worth checking out. Google has some ready-made ones you can play with, too, like the popular "Good morning" routine that will tell you the news of the day, the weather, and more. They're not as powerful or customizable as something like Tasker, but they can bring a lot of convenience to your smart display or speaker.

For most actions, you can control the screen with your hands or your voice. On the home screen, you should see a list of your currently connected devices. Select your Nest Hub device from this list by tapping on its icon. There are a few different options you can play around with on this menu, but the one we're looking for here is the 'During low light' setting.

While not as customizable as Android TV, the Google TV Home screen has the potential to get better the more you use it. Hopefully, these customization options can help. First, select your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen. You can now use the D-pad on your remote to move the app shortcut left or right.

Your screen can display pages with touch controls and important information about your day, your linked devices, and more. A confirmation screen will appear to tell you that this mode will hide Google’s recommendations and your ability to use the Watchlist features. You will also not have access to any content you purchased from Google Play Movies or the Google Assistant. Select your Nest Hub in the Google Home app, tap the Settings gear button, and select Display Settings. Digital Wellbeing is a great feature on smartphones but did you know that you can even control your screen time with the Google Home Hub? The feature allows you to set filters and downtime for the Smart Display.

It’s available on both a Nest Hub (firmware 1.44) and Home Mini (firmware 1.42) that we checked this evening. These new Nest Hub personalization and notification settings also require thelatest Google Home app (2.15 or 2.16+) and are currently only on Android. If there's something you can't do with your Nest Hub on its own, there's a chance it could be done with IFTTT. To get started, browse through some of the pre-made Assistant applets, or create your own (that last link only works when you're logged in). Don’t expect masses of controls and sound settings to tweak, you can adjust the bass and treble to suit your ear.

These settings are your Google account settings that are used by Google Assistant. You may also notice that there are some Google account settings related to Google Assistant. Again, you can turn on/off this mode on individual Google Home devices.

You can customize Google Home address to get localized weather and traffic info. This is the most interesting features of Google Home. You may refer to this guide on how to use Google Home guest mode. As there are many settings related to Google Assistant, Google decides to move other Google Assistant settings to a dedicated page. As shown above, in the device list, you should be able to find the Google Home device.

It's especially useful with PCs, iPhones, and other devices that have limited Chromecast support. If you’re already versed in the Google Home ecosystem then this is a great way to manage your entire home and smart home devices even when you’re not there. You’ll also need this application to get all setup and using the Home Hub with many of these extra settings and modes. When you use a hand gesture to interact with your Nest Hub Max or Nest Hub , you can control media and not have to touch the screen or use voice commands. This can be very useful when your hands are dirty, such as when you follow along with a cooking video. You can also use the same gesture to dismiss timers and alarms, or to stop Google Assistant from talking.

Lastly, we can turn off recommendations entirely. To get notifications on Smart Displays and speakers, “Personal results” have to be enabled. This setting lets Assistant show your photos, email, calendar, contacts, reminders, and YouTube recommendations, as well as make verbal payments. On devices with screens, those items can also appear on the homescreen as cards. If you want to play audio content on your Nest Hub from another phone or smart home device that doesn't have Google Chromecast, there's an easy workaround. The Nest Hub can act as a Bluetooth speaker, allowing you to stream audio from any device that supports the Bluetooth protocol.
